7th Trip - Lake Scugog!

The day started off by meeting Goreman at 5:15AM. What turned out to be a cold and cloudy morning actually turned out to be another great trip! Simply put, waking up early allows you to get stuff done. We decided to hit Lake Scugog and try our luck for some of the infamous walleyes and crappies. Note to self - neglecting to buy or catching your own live bait will cost you and arm and a leg at the local bait store (well, $13 to be exact). Lake Scugog is definitely one of the toughest lakes to fish as it's super shallow and is choke full of weeds everywhere. No walleyes caught today, but we still got tons of dinky perch, rockbass, sunfish, bluegill, some crappie, and a few nice bass - including a HUGE 4lb Largemouth Bass. We only kept 8 crappies for a fresh dinner as the rest were released to be caught another day (remember, conservation is the key!). Thanks Goreman for another great trip!

Thought of the day: "Fishing is one of those blessings from God that makes us rich, no matter what our bank account says". taken from from "Catch of the Day - Spiritual lessons for life from the Sport of Fishing" by Jimmy Houston.

Cheers!

6th Trip - YEEE HAAA!!!!

Waking up early is GREAT! We got an early start to the day by meeting at my place at 5:15AM. It's like the old saying "You Snoooze, You Lose!". The plan was to first look for some crappie and then hit the main lake for some giant whitefish and lakers. Well, the crappies didn't exactly work out. Enoch got one nice slab while Tony had a massive 2lb+ crappie lost at the boat - a classic rookie mistake by being too excited. We also got numerous rock bass and perch. We did however run into some NICE BONUS BASS! The highlight of the day was the double header 5lb Smallmouth Bass that Alfred and I both got - they we're MONSTERS!!! All bass were QUICKLY and SUCCESSFULLY RELEASED! Surface water temp was 63F.

The whitefish and lakers didn't work out either - the main lake was a bit too rough to be fishing out there so we had to stay close to shore. Better to be safe than sorry.

Though he claims to have out-fished his fishing mentor today, props goes to Alfred for improving his fishing skills by leaps and bounds. He now casts with authority and has the drive to wake up at 4am to go fishing or play softball. That's the dedication and passion I like to see - Welcome to the ACF club Al! Many thanks to "Net Man" - Enoch, and "Camera Man" - Tony.

And for the record, the "Ron Guarantee" was in effect and was successfully (and easily) met. It was a great day to be out - Thanks guys for the good times! =)

5th Trip - Happy Birthday Michelle!!!

Happy Birthday Michelle! Is there a better way to spend your birthday than to be on the water soaking in the beautiful weather and catching lots of fish as well? Lol - Plus the RON guarantee was in full effect and both Garry and Michelle caught lots. Props to them for picking up fresh Vietnamese sandwiches and snacks. It was also Michelle's first ever time fishing - and the first ever girl to become a member of the Asian Christian Fishing Club! Furthermore, Garry is becoming a much better fisherman as he was fully involved with hooking worms and taking off fish. Congrats Garry - no longer can you be called a fishing noob.

Conservation is very important and we let go a number of GIANT rock bass go. I've always been taught by my dad to only keep a few fish for a fresh dinner - the rest are released to catch another day! Even though it may be legal, there's no need to fill your fridges and freezers with fish. We all have a part to play in conserving this great resource and we can educate others by setting a good example through our own actions.

Oh, and for the record, I had another GIANT Bass on which we should of landed, but Garry said "the net was stuck", so then the fish took a massive leap out of the water and shook the hook free. =)

Michelle's first ever fish caught - BIG SMILE!

4th Trip - Rough weather but still an Awesome Trip!!!

The day was calling for 30+km winds, and yet Enoch "Bomberman" Chan, and Tony "Chump to Champ" Wong still wanted to experience the great sport of fishing. Despite the strong winds, we could still go safely by staying close to shore and by fishing in the sheltered bays. So why miss an opportunity to continue to share my passion for the beauty of the great outdoors and fishing? Plus the "RON" guarantee was in effect for this trip - which means if you don't catch a fish, Lunch will be on me!!!! And for the record, the "RON" guarantee has always been successful upheld.

The winds were howling and the waves were pounding the boat, yet we still managed to catch lots of fish including GIANT rock bass, yellow perch, sunfish, and a few nice bass. Good times! The pics speak for themselves! (photos courtesy of Tony Wong)

Cheers! =)

3rd Trip - Jon and Ry's Excellent Adventure!!!

The day started off in complete darkness as the sun had yet to rise above the horizon. It was a bit chilly in the morning but we were glad to have gotten an early start on the day. Jon Lee met at my house and after a quick stop at Timmy's for gas and food, we were off to the lake in no time. We were definitely excited!

What a GREAT day to be out on the water! The sun was shining brightly, the boat was super fast and we reached our spot in no time. We didn't mark many fish at the start so we decided to try another location. That paid off BIG time as the real fun began as Jon quickly hooks up and lands a BIG whitefish. Other people around were catching fish too. It wasn't long till I hook onto my first fish and the rest was history. We only kept 4 between the two us as we had reached our daily limits. The trolling motor didn't work today - though I'm sure if it did we would of caught even more fish.

There's something about being on a pristine lake that makes it just breathtaking. ANOTHER GREAT TRIP and AWESOME MEMORIES! More to come!

2nd Trip - Goreman's First Outing!

Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

The 2nd trip of the year took place the next day with Gorman and his friend Preston. We launched from the south Keswick canal as the other canal wasn't deep enough to launch from. The boat was rocketing out there and was FAST! WHOOOO HOOOO!(it was fast this time because we didn't have 3 giant 200lb+ guys in it this time -lol). We started at the mouth of the Holland River looking for pike but couldn't find any. Then we hit a secret spot of mine on the Keswick side and started hammering GIANT rock bass and sunfish. The FISHING WAS HOT!!!! We all continued nailing fish including a few smallmouth and largemouth bass - all quickly released of course because they're not in season. I also nailed a GIANT 5 lb smallie! WHOOOO HOOOO! Water temp ~55 degrees F. It was very windy on the way back but again, it was just great to get out. We all had a good time and the smiles on both Gore's and Preston's face were priceless. Onwards to the next AC Fishing trip!

1st Trip - MAIDEN VOYAGE!!!

Tuesday, May 12, 2009.

Finally!!! After many many years of dreaming and waiting patiently....the day has come!

So Chris, Garry, Albert and I took part in the first Maiden Voyage of the new boat. We launched from Mahoney's marina in willow beach and headed straight for the whitie grounds. It was a beautiful day and my friend Gills guided us out there. There were lots of boats out but nobody was catching much. We then made the trip to jackson's point where it was also slow. Chris and Garry had a fish on but lost it. They also hooked onto the anchor line as few times. Lol. On the way back we stopped by in the shallow waters to hook up with some perch. The new boat is SWEEEEEEET!!!! It was a little slow with 4 people but it was still lots of FUN. On the way home we lost a rear trailer light but it was still a blessing to get out and fish with fellow brothers in Christ. By the way, Garry and Chris smuggled beer onto the boat and wasted instant ice packs to chill the beer. They also pissed in bottles. Enjoy the pics!

Ask Chris what's in the bottle!

The Catch! Lol

Glad we didn't buy this boat!!!
